I am looking for a gift to offer to my brother in law and I am tired of big chains store. I was wondering if anyone know of a place where I can look at in SF for an authentic christmas gift.

You pose a very general question, without giving any hints about what would suit this person. San Francisco has all kinds of shopping experiences available to someone who wants to stay out of the big chain stores. Most of those, incidentally are in the Union Square area and adjoining Market Street by Powell Street.
Maybe the thing to do is to explore the commercial blocks of Hayes Street, or Union Street, or Valencia in the Mission. If your brother-in-law is youngish, maybe somewhere on Haight.

I agree with Drew, you would need to provide a lot more details.. however, I just happens to run into the following web site http://www.kaddoz.com while checking twitter that gives you a list of store in which you can find ideas for your brother in law , right now they do not have much content but it gives you an idea of good local stores to visit in san francisco.
