What do i say to my friend who lost their dad?

June 6, 2010 | In: Sympathy Gifts

I feel so bad.. I just do not know what to say. I am writing a sympathy card, and I want it to be nice.. not just “sorry for your loss.”

if anyone lost a parent..(i am sorry).. but what are some comforting things people said or did for you?

no bible versus please.

also, whats a little gift i could pick up? something sentimental.

Say you will be there for her whenever she needs it. Give a gift that reminds her of the friendship you have. Saying “im sorry for your loss” really doesnt do much

There is nothing you really can say just be there to listen if they need you. I don’t know what to put in the card though, sorry.

Just let your friend know that you are there for them should they need you for anything and that you care about them.
Maybe buy them a teddy bear to cuddle when they are feeling down?

Just say you’re really sorry for your friend. Tell her you’ll be there for her whenever she needs it. If she wants to talk about him, listen. As for a gift, I’m not really sure. Just give her something you know that she’ll love. Something to lift her spirits. That’s what I would want, anyway.

Aw! My dad died to when I was in the 2nd grade, and im 14 [9th] now, well, my class made this huge card with simple things i did with my dad. Like of course they didnt know what we did. But since your her friend, you could draw a huge flower [what my class did for me] and draw a little picture like her dad cooking, working, etc in the middle.
And say angels fly over you, people may go, but their still there in your memories.

Go to the funeral to show that you care, But be there when she needs someone to talk to, buy her, her favorite candy or cd or something to cheer her up. But just talk and cheer her up will really help and mean something.

I would write that your thoughts and prayers are with her/him and her/his family. If your friend enjoys plants, get something like a fruit tree, dogwood,…some type that they can which grow and blossom through the years and think of his/her father when it does.

Definately don’t say that you understand what their going through because they know you don’t. You should try saying that if they ever need someone to talk to you’ll always be there to listen and that if they ever need anything that you’ll still be there. Try giving her a bff necklace to show her that you’re not going anywhere.

when my dad passed away most of my friends were just there for me. i know a few went to his funeral to be there for me. one person who coached my cheer team sent me a card and a stuffed animal.
but i was always sick of people telling me “your being so strong” or “you’re so brave” so yea dont use that

You should just tell her how sorry you are for her loss and that you will always be there for her when she needs it. I’ve had friends with similar problems and I tell them no matter what I’ll be there for them and they can always come to me when they need me! And as for the gift get them something that you know they like maybe something you made like a bracelet or necklace.

You could say that you are there for them for what ever they need when ever they need it. That they may feel lost right now but that you will be there to listen to them, hold them, or make them forget for a while what ever they need. It’s hard to say the right thing, in these situations. Just remember to honor their feelings. I am not sure if this person is a male or female. For a female perhaps a locket with a picture of her and her loved one. Something that would be with her always. I am sorry for your friends loss. I hope you find just the right words. I would say that the fact that you are taking this much care and consideration to find those words, shows that you are indeed a great and loving friend and most likely anything you say will be perfect. Good luck.

my friend lost a dad, i told her if she needed anything, to talk to me cause ill be there for her. she appreciated that and i would get her something that she could cuddle w/ and a token of friendship so she knows that there is stuff worth, in a sense, “moving on” about it..

It’s never easy for those left behind but when you lose someone so senselessly and unexpectedly…many share in your sorrow

For me I’d never put, “sorry for your loss” or “I know how you feel” Because even if the person means well, it’s not the same unless they’ve been there too.

A gift-well was there something special about your friends dad? Something that you could get her that would remind her of her dad? Or maybe see if there was a family picture that you could have framed nicely for her or a picture just of him, something along those lines.
