I have a friend of Italian heritage expecting her first baby and I would like to give her something special / meaningful as a baby gift. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi, I’ve been living in Italy for awhile now, but I really don’t know. My Italian friend recently became a grandma, and she just gave a hand-knitted blanket and cap and booties to the new baby. She’s Sicilian, and very big on traditions…I think the best gift is to give something like a hand-knitted blanket, crib, etc (basically something the baby will use). If you want it to be special, make it yourself.

Sorry to say I don’t know what is the Italian custom to give for the new born. But I suggest you the babies’ silver bracelets. In China, people would like to give it as the congratulation gift, means hope the baby can be wealthy and healthy in the future.

I’m Italian and, sorry, but there isn’t anything special or traditional… we usually give something the baby would use.
