How much money should each person give for a monetary wedding gift?

February 1, 2010 | In: Wedding Gifts

I have a wedding this weekend. The bride is a close family friend of ours. How much money should we give for each person for the gift? The wedding will be in Gloucester, MA.

Customarily, guests who are close friends of the couple would give a gift of $200-$400 regardless of the size of your family- that is if there is only 1 or 2 people attending the event. If more than two people are attending the wedding, it would be most customary to give $100 per person unless the guests are under 18- then $25 per child is traditional. However, if you are purchasing a nice gift from the registry there is now not really a “customary” monetary gift, although it’s always nice to slip a few bucks into the card box. In the end, It’s important that you are there to share your love and support and I guarantee you the blesssed couple is not keeping track of how much dinero each family has offered up:)

Hope this helps!

I give at least $50 per person attending but in general I don’t think there is a rule. I try and be generous depending on how much I have at the time.

You usually give what the dinner plate would cost per person.

Example: $ 40. per plate $40 per person.

It depends on your own circumstances. In my family (granted you can afford it), the going rate for family or close friend is about $100 for a single person or $150-$200 for a couple.

If you can’t give $100, I think at least $75 for a close friend or family member.
