Danza Per Due – Part of David Laidlaw recital, originally by Gert Bomf

July 1, 2010 | In: Engagement Gifts

David Laidlaw’s Percussion Friends’ 100% natural, good fun jam-band explosion. It was Friday, June 19 at 7:30 in Room 104 of the Music Building. As well as David Laidlaw, other percussionists were Erick Froats, Kyle Nurse, Jonathan Thornton, Jim Toner and Justin Wiley. Here is David’s description: A percussion ensemble recital chock full of metallic, plastic and wooden audio goodness. It includes Afro-Cuban and Brazilian-inspired rhythms, a piece by a Nigerian percussionist, one by Debussy written after he heard a gamelan group at the 1889 Paris exhibition, a snare drum duet and Nola, an engagement gift for the composer’s fiancee, transposed for marimbas. G Force and Not Sure Yet explore layered rhythms and multiple instruments, including ‘found sound.’
