“Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” – Darlene Love

January 8, 2011 | In: Christmas Gifts

One of Darlene’s solo recordings without the Blossoms, and possibly has the Ronettes on back-up. It’s from the album “A Christmas Gift For You” which features something from all of Phil Spector’s major acts. Credit goes to WMG/UMG/

@coxmillelementary i sooooo, agree with you, this album was a hugh part of my childhood, i’m from the u.k and was brought up in the eighties, i just think this is a total classic, i think that the producer (yes the murdering recluse), had a huge part of the albums greatness. whatever this man got up to in real life, there is no arguing that back in the day he made great music!!!!!!!!

@coxmillelementary Ella Fitzgerald’s Swingin’ Christmas is great, so is Peggy Lee’s. Vol 1-3 of Christmas Cocktails has singers like Julie London & Lena Horne. Elvis did a great rockin’ Christmas CD with some softer songs…find some jazz ones and do a compilation.

@ansonia1976 Oh yes, a ROCK Christmas album was a bold move at the time, and the JFK assassination halted its chart potential. Then I notice there are a lot of things from 1963 that seem to be connected with that but anyway, I enjoy that Doris Day-type stuff that everybody else did, but I just wish more artists then had followed the uniqueness of this album. I’m trying to find similar ones( if any exist.)

for me there is only one Christmas album that means anything, and this is it. Then there are Christmas songs and this one. They all fall in comparison…not only a great Christmas song, but a great song …period! Spector is a genius

This is the emotional climax of the album! Love the way Darlene’s voice just soars above the din and sonic splendor of the Wall of Sound! Wow!

The backup was done by The Ronettes, The Crystals, The Blossoms, Sonny Bono, Cher, Jack Nitzsche’s wife Gracia, Darlene Love and Bobby Sheen. They all sang on eachother’s songs on the album.
